Goodbye, our friend, Andrew

It is with great sadness that we have to post this news update, but we have lost one of our own, our good friend and colleague; Andrew Mitchell.  Andrew sadly passed away on Sunday 9th January 2022 after battling with a long term illness. Andrew was a major part in the founding of PATTA and quickly became a key member to help form our working standards back in 2018. Andrew has been a huge influence as part of our steering group, and will be a massive miss. Andrew's professionalism and experience in his trade became valuable to engineers [...]

The all-new Code of Practice for PAT testing

The NEW 5th Edition of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment The 5th Edition has been written by author, James Eade; the Portable Appliance Testing Trade Association has been involved directly in the writing of it.  Having a representative for the industry on the panel at every meeting and discussion along the way has ensured that the new book has been written with the PAT tester in mind.  Our very own Tim James (PAT Testing Expert) has been on the panel since it was formed, around 2-years ago, and has attended countless meetings, [...]

Covid-19 (Corona Virus) Update from PATTA

Covid-19 (Corona Virus) Update from PATTA Without a doubt, we are living through unprecedented times, with much uncertainty in the business world. As you know, PATTA is the trade organisation for PAT Testing Companies in the UK and we represent the interests of all of our members and others in the PAT Testing Industry. If you have PAT Testing booked to be carried out in the next few weeks you may be thinking about closing your workplace, and it is natural to instantly cancel all appointments. Many of our members are reporting that much of their booked work [...]

What PATTA is doing and trying to achieve

The Portable Appliance Testing Trade Association was formed in 2013 to provide a voice for people working in the “PAT” testing industry when they need it and to create opportunities for like minded small business owners to network and grow their businesses together. Events and meetings are happening all the time where decisions are being made that affect our futures, but until now there has been nobody representing us, or putting across our opnions and objections. PATTA runs 3-4 member meet ups every year, at different locations around the UK, where members can network with their peers in relaxed surroundings. [...]

PATTA’s 2019 News Update

I thought it would be a good idea to explain to you, our members and supporters, what we’re currently involved in; so that you can see what we’re up to and see how we’re progressing forward.   In 2013 the PAT testing Network was established with the aim of attempting to connect people operating in the PAT industry from all over the country, and then together raise standards across the network. This worked but restrictions affected growth, some of it self-inflicted, some based on opinions of others.   In late 2017 it was do or die time, so, as we [...]

Why would you join PATTA?

The Portable Appliance Testing Trade Association is not intended to be a networking group, or a sales tool for your business; the people who run "PATTA" are as busy as you are, running and working in their own businesses, so they don't really have the time to promote yours too. Additionally if we were going to promote your business and get you leads or sales then we'd charge a lot more for a membership than we do.  The point of having a membership fee is two fold; 1. To give us some money to help cover the costs of what [...]

News Update October 2018

The future of PAT This is a very interesting time for the PAT Testing industry, with the UK government taking electrical safety very seriously at the moment. Brexit is likely to bring changes to the legislation, with much to be decided over the next few months. The government were already in the process of setting up a new 'Office for Product Safety' - mainly due to the issue of counterfeit and non-UK standard electrical items, but of course the tragic fire at Grenfell in June 2017 has brought that much more into sharper focus. Without a trade association to represent [...]
